Given the unholy attack on Chalie Hebdo and the French nation, the hacking attack on Sony has even more frame of reference. This film, while funny and tasteless, catapults to the forefront of free expression. Seth Rogan is just a funny guy: his every statement of incredulity has become a hallmark framed by his high baritone rasp; his voice breaks the fourth wall, and we are always invited to be a part of his lampooning. James Franco dives into the role of the egoist, stupid and mindless reporter with gusto. Randall Park emerges from his solid work as a character actor to give dimension to the caricatured Kim Jung Un with a weakness for Katy Perry.

The concept of portraying the assassination attempt on a sitting leader of a country is offensive, regardless of how they frame it. But the concept of squelching free speech is far more abhorable. I urge everyone to watch this silly send up if for no other reason than to signal support for Charlie.
