[i]The Revenant[/i] is a fine film, but the story is almost non-existent and will be remembered mainly a technical achievement (similarly to how [i]Birdman[/i] is starting to be forgotten except for the technical achievement). [i]Carol[/i] is an utterly forgettable, confused, and unappealing film that if it weren't for Cate Blanchet's performance, would have been totally unnecessary. [i]Straight Outta Compton[/i] was among the most complex films of the year in terms of both theme and production values, and yet it only got one award nomination.
