[i]Lion[/i] is a decent film that treads water during the 2nd act. The interview on "60 Minutes" with the real-life person that [i]Lion[/i] is based on told the story in a concise and emotionally engaging way. It did in 10 minutes what [i]Lion[/i] does in almost two hours. [i]The Jungle Book[/i] was among the year's most complex films of the year in terms production values and had a screenplay that really worked, and yet it only got one award nomination. This is the first year where I felt there was a perfect category: Best Animated Short. Another short by Dreamworks that was really good, but wasn't eligible for a nomination, was "Kung Fu Panda Secrets of the Scroll." It is available on Netflix and is about a half hour long.
