Steve Buscemi plays Nikita Sergeyevitch Khruschev, without an affected Russian accent or phony affected mannerisms. Michael Palin, Jeffrey Tambor, Simon Russell Beale play other key Central Committee Communist Party figures, each their own way. What happens when you put them together under the care and comedy of Armando Iannucci is hilarious and intriguing. It's not important that the story takes historical liberties: it creates atmosphere that serves both parody and parable in a wonderfully entertaining way. People get yelled at, shot, and burned, and it's satisfying. Bureaucrats bristle, bumble, and bluster, and its satisfying. This is a great collection of actors, story and cinema. And it's really fun to watch. Don't expect knee-slapping humor; expect something just south of subtle. Then enjoy the fuck out of it.
