Just in time for the US Presidental Elections, here's one perfect for Haiku-ing:

Primary Colors (1998)

The Rules

A Haiku is written as follows:

The first line of a haiku poem has five syllables.
The second line of a haiku poem has seven syllables.
The third, and final, line of a haiku poem has five syllables.

The Movie Haiku Contest (MHC) is open to every member of the FWFR site.

To enter, think of a Haiku for the current movie, then post into the current thread. Haikus may be risque, but nothing explicit please.

Only one entry per person. However, you are allowed to edit your existing entry until 9pm Tuesday FWFR time.

Voting.

If you have entered the MHC, then you have to vote. If you do not vote, you'll lose 3 points from your total.

You do not have to enter an MHC to vote. Vote away.

---------------------------------

For each round, you get to vote for your three favourite MHC. The voting is as follows:

3 pts - 1st place
2 pts - 2d place
1 pt - 3d place

--------------------------------

You cannot vote for yourself.
You can vote for the previous winner

You vote by sending the currently designated Haiku Meister (me, this week) your votes in a PM (Private Message).

You may vote only once.

When the voting deadline ends (9pm Wednesday FWFR time), the votes are tallied and the top three places are announced.

*After winners are announced, the floor is open for posting of alternate Movie Haikus under that topic heading.

The winner is then allowed to make an acceptance speech (if he/she so wants to), and then must choose the movie for the next MHC contest. The winner will post the new movie as a new topic under Movie Haikus in this format:

Movie Haiku Contest # - Movie Title

And this week's recap for your voting ease and pleasure:

ChocolateLady
Charming candidate

But you could tell Clintons were
primary focus.

bife
Sex, more sex and a
Presidential candidate
Must be fictional!

Beanmimo
If this was about Bush
There would be less 'on the road'
and more 'in the courts'.

rockfsh

Wow! Yikes!

I had my concession speech written, but not my acceptance speech.

Who knew?

I'll look through the ever-growing list of movies and find a good candidate for us to Haiku next.

EM :)

CL, just out of curiosity, if I hadn't voted, wouldn't I get deducted 3 "non-voting" points like in the other comps? So I would only have been on 8 (11-3), and monty would have been winning anyway?

I like the 3 point reduction rule, it effectively says that anybody who doesn't vote is treating all the other entries as winners and giving them all 3 points, and nobody can ever gain an advantage by not voting. Not suggesting anybody would, of course, but still it seems to make sense.

Otherwise, say a lurker had come along and picked my entry over monty's, I would have won just because I hadn't voted or given out any points. That wouldn't have been fair (although it might be the only way I'll ever win!!!)

No harm, since Monty won anyway, and maybe i misread the scores, but seems fair to deduct points for not voting.

Well, yes. When I posted that, I was assuming you would send in your vote and so without the reduction of three points from your score, but not knowing who you would give your three points to, at that stage the two of you were tied.

I can now announce that now that all the polls are closed the final tally, using all hanging chads, paper ballots and electronic machines, the results of the Primary Colors Haiku contest are:

Third place - BaftaBabe with 9 of the popular votes
Second place - bife with 11 of the electoral college votes

And the winner is...

going soon to the oval office to pick the next Haiku movie...

counting all electoral college and the popular votes...

the one, the only...

Montgomery with a whopping landslide of 14 votes!

Brava Monty and you may now swear in and choose the next movie to be Haikued.

(Is "Haikued" a word?)

Just waiting on bife, and I need that final vote to determine the winner!

Come on BIFE!

(Or a lurker's vote will do, as well.)
Sludge Posted - 11/05/2008 : 19:38:45

Montgomery Posted - 11/05/2008 : 16:30:52
