Is it set in the year 2000, or 1998, or some other time?

Thanks. I think we can assume that it isn't really set in 2000 then. (I was considering it for my Future Passed accolade.)

I remember asking John Landis, the film's writer-director, about this when he was writing the movie around 1997 (I was 13 years old and good friends with his son). The conversation went something like this:

Me: Why are you calling it Blues Brothers 2000?
Landis: What year is coming up soon?
Me: 2000.

It didn't really satisfy me, but I wasn't about to press him on it.
