Many of our fwfrs here refer to Bobby, the Ned Beatty character in Deliverance, as a dentist. Wasn't he an insurance salesman? I remember Lewis saying, "I don't believe in insurance, there's no risk."

Yes, you're right. According to the Wiki article he's in insurance in the film and original novel.
