Posted - 01/28/2011 : 23:57:30 I'm looking for films in which the entire span of a human character's life is shown. They should at least reach adulthood, and I'll raise the age if there are a lot of examples. If there are not too many, the birth and death do not need to be seen but it should get pretty close: for example, if we don't witness the birth then at least the parents should be shown as a couple beforehand and the character should be on screen by toddlerhood at the latest (although I'm not even being quite that strict yet).
So far, I can think of these.
Do we get to the Last Emperor's death? |

Posted - 02/12/2011 : 20:41:09 I still need to tauten up this accolade, but I've added most of those. I'm especially grateful for How the West Was Won, which is exactly the sort of thing I had in mind for both this and my century accolade. However, I've decided to leave out Up (I'd prefer films with the life more evenly spread out) and Jack (in this fictionalised version, and even in some real cases, of progeria survival well past eighteen is possible).
Can anyone please recommend a film about Jesus which most evenly covers his life (i.e. doesn't jump almost from the stable to the Mount)? Also, are there any similar films about Mohammed, Siddharta Gautama &c.? |

Posted - 02/08/2011 : 18:30:32 In case it makes any difference, the parameters of the accolade are no shorts (where unnamed leads are extremely common) and no characters whose name is secret from the other characters (i.e. no Man with No Name) they should either know the unmentioned name or in the case of just-met characters there should at least be no reason to think they would be denied the information if they asked. |

Posted - 02/08/2011 : 13:19:38 That's very frustrating - I didn't know that messages weren't getting through. Of course there's no record of messages sent so I can't look back and see what else may have been lost into the ether. As for your one I'll see if I can remember and post in the accolade thread. |

Posted - 02/08/2011 : 03:46:04 Nope, never got it. There was a time recently when people were noting not getting P.M.s. Anyway, for things like accolades, it's best just to tell me in the Fourum (e.g. in the general Accolades thread) because I might not be able to address it straight away and then the information is available here for when I can. |

Thanks. None of my accolades are ever closed, so I always welcome suggestions.
Then that makes me wonder if you got my PM about your On Anon accolade. I thought you ignored it. |

Can't believe I forgot Brian! I'll also include one Jesus one, but most biopics don't actually show birth/toddlerhood or old age so I can't find any as I've said, please do let me know of any specific cases. |

Posted - 02/07/2011 : 15:57:34 Hi
If you're still looking i guess these would fit: Dragon The Bruce Lee story (1993) The Life of Brian - i think (it's been a while) 10 Commandments How the West was Won - many lives shown here Jack
There are hundreds if you include films about Jesus and Bio's
Good Luck with the accolade

Posted - 02/01/2011 : 02:26:13 Oh you really didn't miss much with the tedious-looking Iraq movie. It may have won an Oscar but no one will remember it in a couple of years time, it's that ordinary.
As for "Up" it's the opening sequence not a flashback, from when he's about 4 or 5 at a guess, and progresses rapidly through his life, and then about 80% of the film takes place when he's 78. Given male mortality rates he probably isn't too far off shuffling on... |

Posted - 02/01/2011 : 00:28:18 Yes, I was really sorry to miss it: I guess I was in Poland for its main release (where it would have been dubbed, as a children's film); I later saw it listed on Saturday mornings in the kids' slot, but I never made it. It's probably the biggest film I've missed in the last five years, but there are others: I haven't seen that tedious-looking Iraq film that won the Oscar, for example.
I've seen part of that back story and it's very touching. However, is it at the very beginning or a flashback? If the latter and/or we don't get at least close to his death then I'm not sure it qualifies, although I hadn't thought about flashbacks before despite this also affecting one of the films above. |

Posted - 01/31/2011 : 23:59:40 Have no fear- that's not a spoiler. It's just you see about 60 or 70 years of the main character's life in the first ten minutes. Given your cinema hit rate I'm amazed you missed it. Best film of last year, easily. :) |

I just watched it again tonight.... "Up", definitely, if you're counting animated movies.
Damn, I knew that I'd get some spoilers when I started this thread! Anyway, thanks, and to others for their suggestions too. |

Well, he's alive, young and healthy at the end, so not really, but I see what you mean in that one life of his is over. |
