I hope you will help me get this book known around the world. Would you help start a Twitter campaign? Below are the ego-boosting quotes I've received, which I hope may tweak your curiosity.
Many thanks in advance to you all. And particular thanks to randall, who very generously gave me a very big bunch of his time and editorial advice. quote:
Resident Aliens
Resident Aliens is wonderful. Beth Porter writes so well about young women and female friendship - really evocative and touching - and the world of the stories is fascinating. It was a pleasure to read. Tessa Ross, CBE,Controller, Film & Drama, Channel 4 TV; Board Member: Royal National Theatre

Evocative, lively, compulsively readable tales of New York in the early 1960s. Beth Porter is a gifted writer with a knack for bringing offbeat characters to vibrant life. Kevin Lally, Executive Editor, Film Journal International
The Day After The End Of The World
With the outing of Beth Porter's new novella a clear, important voice is heard, a work that bears serious attention. To help the message slide right down to the innards, she has basted her tasty work with humor, well, more like slap-out laughter for characters that are so original that I want to draw up my chair and spend time with them.
Throughout the spinning of the tale about a family's lopsidedly normal life there is the metronomic reminder that increasingly there is limited time before the end of the world. Doom is nigh and will eventually swallow them. The shadow of dread is overtaking this family. And yet, ironic humor and well-formed characters sparkle through the gloom and doom yet to come. The prose is as lean as a sports car. The speed of growing suspense grabs attention. You can't put it down. It owns you until you finish the last page.
The device of a metronome cuts into the story as if a bell tolls, but the bell tolls for whom? Those in normal life waiting for a transformation? The shadow which follows them through their every movement? What happens when the future crosses the present? Paul Foster,Award-winning Broadway playwright, author, co-founder of the original La Mama Theatre.

Zippy characters, sparkling dialogue, in a paranoid New York one fatal week in November 1965. Beth Porter has her finger on the pulse of a city driven mad by its inhabitantsor its inhabitants driven mad by their city. Shane Connaughton, Multi-award-winning novelist, dramatist, screenwriter, including My Left Foot
*
Beth Porter's method is impressionistic. In The Day After the End of the World she builds her story in short scenes by small, deft brushstrokes, creating a picture of New York in the 1960s, a rich texture of family love, sleaziness, mental illness and even murder. She is very good on the mechanisms of young women's friendships. It is hard for the reader not to be drawn into her world. Simon Brett, BAFTA-nominated radio dramatist, prolific novelist of detective fiction, including A Shock to the System, made into a feature film with Michael Caine.

The Day After The End Of The World showcases Beth Porter's intensely cinematic imagination to full effect. Her unflinching account of the resentments, joys, unpleasantnesses and banalities of the lives of a group of emotionally interwoven characters works, with a sense of increasing foreboding, to a suitably noir climax. Paul Bajoria, Much lauded children's writer, and BBC radio producer.

Posted - 04/25/2013 : 02:05:40 i still can't see it - I think perhaps it doesn't work on mobile.
Will try again later
edit: logged in from work, and on the full site i can see the 'like' button that isn't there when i log in on my phone.
Unfortunately, it seems I need an Amazon log in to be able to click like, which will take a little more effort - you'll have to wait until the weekend, I'm afraid!
Congrats anyway - must be a great feeling to be published |

Big thanks, bife, and sorry you're having trouble finding the like-thumb. If you click the above link on my original post up there ^ - you should get to the Resident Aliens eBook page on amazon.co.uk The book cover pikkie is on the left, and to right of it is the title with parenthetical Kindle Edition. Just below that should be the Like symbol. I think at the moment there's only 1 Like please keep it company

Just read some of the Amazon sample. Damn - why did I get a Nook?
Any chance this will be available in a format I can read on my Nook? ePub? PDF?
If so, I'd be happy to read and review it for Curious Book Fans and Yahoo!
Big thanks, CL, both to you and MguyX! What pals!
I wish I could say the book will be available on other formats, but to publish on kindle [currently the market-share leader by miles], you have to agree to a contract it won't be available on other formats. However, it would be a HUGE help if you could "like" it. PM me so I can suggest another option as well. If you can bear it!.
And, do PLEASE, help me raise awareness - I think lots of people might be interested.
Anyway - have a good w/e and thanks again.
