It may look ugly to you, but the cacao midge is essential for pollinating the cacao plant and without it we wouldn't have chocolate!

The Hickman, Nebraska city council pissed off horse lovers all over the country when they issued an eviction notice against 32 year old Peter Rabbit, a horse who has lived on the same 4 acre plot since his birth. His owner, 76 year old Haley Scott, is defying the city council.

---
Actually, my first impulse was to use a picture of a horse that someone else who posts on a horse forum is very proud of. As I went browsing for that file, I was laughing, "No, no, that would be too cruel."

You see, the situation is that the owner fancies herself to be a renowned authority on pedigrees and horse breeding. That in itself would be just a narcissistic quirk if not for her obnoxious personality. She's chewed through lots of forums and pissed off lots of folks.

So, when some folks saw that the authority's own stallion was just pretty average, they were astounded. The authority insisted her horse was an excellent specimen of his breed and color.

I swear, I hadn't posted anything truly negative in the discussion, but somehow I found myself as the major target for retribution. One of her friends, an evil Belgian, posted a picture of my stallion under the pretense of considering breeding a mare to him. He asked for opinions of my horse.

I just stayed out of it and let the discussion run for awhile. But most of the comments about my horse were quite flattering. So, the evil Belgian posted that what he really wanted to know, was this a breeding quality horse?

At that point I posted that my horse does not stand at public stud and even if he did, I would not be interested in shipping semen to Belgium.

Then everyone else saw that the horse was mine and that the original post had been for a "vendetta critique."

Nope, you don't find the level of intelligence and sophistication on horse forums that you find here on the Fourum.

So anyhow, I was tempted to post a picture of obnoxious lady's horse as my ugly animal avatar, then I decided that would be too cruel and so I almost used a picture of my own stallion. Then I remembered Peter Rabbit and realized his case makes him especially suitable as an 'ugly animal' avatar. ;)

Initially I thought that someone had finally come up with a topic that I couldn't penguinise. How could I possibly enter the cutest animal ever into an "Ugly Animals" contest?

Then I looked again...
