Leapin' lizards!! Who can forget the first (annoying) time you heard Andrea McArdle singing:

The sun will come out tomorrow.
You can bet your bottom dollar that tomorrow
There'll be sun.

America Under Communism? That's what they said it would be in those carefree chicken-in-every-pot post-war days of the 1950s.

"The first postwar "Imagine if..." dramatizations of the Russians conquering and enslaving America, Is This Tomorrow? was published in 1947 by the Catechetical Guild Educational Society of St. Paul, Minnesota. At ten cents a copy, this fifty-two page, full-color comic book was a smashing success. Some four million copies were printed."

Tomorrow
Will it really come ?
And if it does come
Will I still be Human ?
All I ask of you is one thing that you never do

Would you put your arms around me ?
(I won't tell anyone)
Tomorrow
Does it have to come ?
All I ask of you is one thing that you'll never do

Would you put your arms around me ?
(I won't tell anybody)
Tomorrow
And what must come before ...

Tomorrow
It's surely nearer now ?
You don't think I'll make it
I never said I wanted to !
Well did I ?

I think I'd better explain the Kolian thought process on this one.

I struggled with the idea of depicting 'tomorrow'.

"Tomorrow never comes" was prominent in my thoughts.

What else never comes? I thought of a eunuch or a celibate priest/nun. My medical knowledge of eunuchs isn't great; I thought it possible that they might be capable of ejaculating, just as a man can do so after a vasectomy. Of course some so-called celibate priests get up to tricks they shouldn't, so perhaps that wasn't it.

Then I hit on the idea of using the Pope. He's not just any old celibate priest. But then I thought: can I be certain that even a Pope doesn't come, perhaps occasionally and involuntarily?

So that's how I ended up with a picture of John Paul II made out of sand. Not only is he dead but he's not even made of flesh.

Like tomorrow, this Sand Pope never comes.

For some, tomorrow is a terrible reminder of mistakes made yesterday.
