Magic is a nice, broad topic. For me, I will never forget the first time I saw Carlos Santana in concert. He was so good he didn't try to be a showman. He just put back his head and played...

Good choice whl - although you might not think so after you've seen bife and His Amazing Magic Underpants 
Anybody found a decent free gif editor? I have a couple of entries i wanted to use this week, but i can't reduce the file size. I did have one, but my two month free trial just expired  |

I was going to go with Earvin "Magic" Johnson (because it is truly magic that he has not only survived an HIV infection for 21 years but also continues to be active and quite healthy).
But then, from my closet I heard:
Abracadra, I sit on his knee;
Presto-changeo, now he's me!
Hocus pocus, we take her to bed;
Magic is fun -- you're dead.
Scared the bejesus out of me. I still apologize to my younger brother (who was 5 at the time - I was 14) for taking him to see the movie and then, once when he was bugging me and hiding in the closet, quoting the above in character while leaning on the shut closet door, which sent him into a terrified frenzy.
Didn't I have any supervision back then????

I spend too much of my time being embarrassed by my compatriots, but I think there was something impressive about the way they reacted when David Blaine came to London and spent a long time in a glass box suspended above the River Thames. Far from being dazzled by the improbability of his achievement, a few irreverent and imaginative cynics began throwing burgers and chips at the doe-eyed, taciturn illusionist.
And now I look more carefully at the pic I can't help wondering: what is he up to?
Surely I didn't deliberately choose something vulgar? Moi? |

| I recall an interview of Harry Blackstone Jr. many years ago. A member of the audience asked him if magic is ever real. He answered that the person was probably thinking of "miracles" rather than "magic." It was a very kind and gracious answer. |
