Is Wolverine a wolverine (in some sense) or is that just his name?
(Please don't give any spoilers as I haven't seen any of the films.) |

It's just a name. The claws are a mutation- not in any way something to do with him being bitten by a radioactive wolverine or anything. To confuse matters even more, in the comics he's often seen running around with wolves but not wolverines. |

Thanks. That's really a shame. I was hoping to get away with "Glutton for punishment" for the prequel, assuming that he goes through a punishing experience of some kind. Never mind. |

Well, he does go through a punishing experience (see X2 for more details) so that might be appropriate. However, unless I'm missing something, I'm not sure how that review would not be highly generic. |

If he were a wolverine, it would be highly non-generic. A glutton is a wolverine. |

All wolverines are gluttons but not all gluttons are wolverines. |

Blimey! Didn't know that myself. Shame he's not a wolverine then. |

Salopian: It could work better as "A punishment for glutton." |

He'd still have to be a wolverine, though, so it's a goner. |

I guess I could have "Wolverine: glutton for punishment" if he is ever actually a glutton for punishment. It's not as good but better than nothing. I'll submit it for the prequel and then see if it turns out to be right. |

Wolverines are fierce little fighters, they grab on and hang in until the opposition is dead. X-Men's wolverine has that particular character trait.
See also: the movie "Red Dawn" ... BTW, RIP Patrick Swayze ... anyway, the partiot kids were called "Wolverines" after their HS mascot, and for the same reason -- never giving up the battle. |

i don't remember where i heard this, but supposedly the big shots at Marvel toyed with the idea of him being a mutated or enchanted wolverine. |

Well, I don't have the review on the film's page, so it must have been rejected. The newish version of the declines page is really annoying because one cannot access older rejections. |
