I am delighted to be able to bring you this one which (apparently) managed to evade us through 166 contests.

One of the greatest adaptations of novel to film, Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird pits a genteel southern lawyer (Atticus Finch, played by Gregory Peck) against the flames of racism fanned by poor white accusers. Told with sensitivity through the eyes of the lawyer's daughter, Scout, the film also marks the credited - and quiet - screen debut of Robert Duvall.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Abbreviated rules (re)borrowed from here to encourage some new entrants .... or old ones back.

The Rules

The first line of a haiku poem has five syllables.
The second line has seven syllables.
The third, and final, line has five syllables.

Example:
First, five syllables
Then there's seven syllables
Last line? Five again.

The Movie Haiku Contest (MHC) is open to every member of the FWFR site.

To enter, all you have to do is think of a Haiku for the current movie, then post into the current thread. Simple as that. Also, haikus may be risque, but nothing explicit please.

Only one entry per person as per The Blevins Rule. However, you are allowed to edit your existing entry until 9pm Tuesday FWFR time.

Voting.

If you have entered the MHC, then you have to vote. If you do not vote, you'll lose 3 points from your total, and suffer from Significant Shrinkage. This could mean the difference between Stardom and a big fat Dumpster Dive.

You do not have to enter an MHC to vote. Vote away. It'll be like a lurker vote!

---------------------------------

For each round, you get to vote for your three favourite haikus. The voting is as follows:

3 pts fwfr a
2 pts fwfr b
1 pt fwfr c
--------------------------------

You may vote only once
You cannot vote for yourself.
You can vote for the previous winner

You vote by sending me your votes in a PM (Private Message) to me.

When the voting deadline ends (9pm Wednesday 19 August FWFR time), the votes are tallied and the top three places are announced.

Well, clearly she was a drunken no-good mom.
Evidence, m'lord:

"And if that diamond ring don't shine
Mama's gonna pawn it for a bottle of wine;
And I ain't talking no itty-bitty bottle -
one of those BIG bottles of Thunderbird, you get me"

Oh, yeah - sobered up long enough to vote.

I voted.

(Now the title of this movie reminds me of that scene from Failure to Launch that goes something like this. There's a girl in the sporting store and asking what gun would be best to get rid of her Mockingbird and the salesman tells her she can't do that, so she asks why, and he says "Well, for one thing, have you never read 'To Kill a Mockingbird'?" to which she replies, "There's a book like that? I'll take one of those, too" and the salesman say's "it is NOT an INSTRUCTION manual!". Hehehe.)

You mean there was a funny scene in that movie and I missed it?

What? I won? I didn't do nothing else but bust up that chifforobe. Honest!

Okay -- new movie as soon as I memorize the past 167 entries and find one we haven't tackled.

Tall order.
