I was wondering. How do the reviews come in to Benj? Do they appear according to when they are sent in for approval, like one long (and probably seemingly to him, never ending) list or does Benj go from page to page (reviewer to reviewer) to read the reviews and approve them?
I'm perplexed, because sometimes something I posted recently (at the end of a long list of pending approvals) gets approved right away. And sometimes reviews sit for a long time.
I know he's busy and there are a lot of reviews to approve. But, when I go through my approvals some days, I have only one or two approved reviews and then I see someone else had 10 or sometimes even 20 in one day.
I'm sure there's a system. Anyone know what it is?

Hi Emily. This subject has been discussed at length over the months in other threads, mainly this one The Approval Process.
You may want to trawl through that to see how it has changed over the months. To sum it up briefly (my understanding of approval order):- Until a few months ago benj went through them largely in chronological order of submission. Then, when the backlog grew to over 3000 reviews, he changed the system to make it more efficient by grouping reviews by film, eg, if there were 30 reviews pending for Titanic, then he would do them all at once to make it quicker and more efficient, so among those 30 there may have been reviews submitted weeks ago and others submitted yesterday. Then people started complaining and attacking benj on the fourum and emails about how it was unfair, so the last I heard benj has gone back to largely chronological order.
The best thing is to not worry about it. Reviews are approved in the order that benj wants to do it, and it appears to me that the order is based on a special blend of fairness, efficiency and what is generally best for fwfr in the long term.

Thanks Sean. I'll check that thread out. I have just started poking around in this part of the website. Yeh. The approval process and timing of approvals has had me scratching my head for awhile. Mostly when I started noticing that I had a big backlog of reviews and yet was falling in the rankings.
I have noticed that Benj approves reviews for new movies much quicker. But, then you have to come up with a film no one has written a review for before and that is a toughie! There are some very obscure films on this site.
I will try to be patient. Unfortunately, patience is a virtue . . .I don't have. EM :)

Ahh! Remember the good ole' days, Emily. Benj would approve your reviews before you even posted the next one.

I don't think it is true that anyone attacked Benj, Sean. Further, as you are fond of pointing out that you rarely have to wait more than a couple of days for your reviews to be processed, perhaps you are not best placed to comment on this subject.

That's my interpretation of benj's comments made in the fourum as to emails he received. I don't know exactly what was said, but it was enough to cause him to go back to a largely chronological processing mode, and as a result of that I now wait as long as everyone else. Hence I'm qualified to comment, as are all fwfrers.

I'm glad to hear it. The irony with all this is that I am really very at ease with the wait in general. I am happy to wait a long time, and even to have to wait longer by heavily-reviewed films being processed more often. It was just the 'in' films that bothered me, as they did seem to be processed even more often than the number of reviews would suggest would happen. It's one thing to have to put up with them (which is absolutely fine), but to also have to wait longer because of their special status just seemed a bit much.
