Can anyone think of any more additions for this accolade? Prequels are allowed but not reboots (nor other films which are just different adaptations of the same source material). Thanks.

Thanks! I knew there was another big one missing. That was one of the ones that inspired the accolade, but I forgot about it.

The Blues Brothers sequel was nearly twenty years after the original.

Off the top of my head...

Psycho and Psycho 2
The Graduate and Rumour Has It
The Hitcher and The Hitcher II
The Mask and Son of the Mask

Also, would it be Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace or Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope?

The first pair. The films don't need to be consecutive elements in the story, just consecutive releases.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I had no idea there would be so many. I'm trusting that these are all official (pre-/)sequels (except for the Bambi/Godzilla ones, which I'm including anyway).

Are these definitely part of the same story? (I've never seen either, so please no spoilers.) Gene Hackman plays different characters, for example.

I suspect this may grow to be quite a sizeable accolade, especially given the recent trend for reviving franchises of or introducing late sequels to movies from the 80s/90s.

Personally, I blame Take That and their reformation in recent years.

I've got to leave these out, as Rumour Has It is more about/linked to The Graduate than a sequel.

Quite. I'd increase the number of years but there are some quite iconic examples about a decade apart.

Hmm... hard to call this one. Search around and a fair few people see it as quite possibly being a sequel (albeit unofficial)- http://www.bfi.org.uk/sightandsound/review/7/

Yep, the character has a different name, but given Harry Caul's paranoia it wouldn't be out of character for him to have changed it in the years following The Conversation. Your call- I won't be offended if you give this one a miss

Well, I'll leave it out then since there is no shortage of official ones. Thanks for all your help.
