It seems to be more typical for successful television series to be made into films, so can anyone think of any more counter-examples than these the films in ChocolateLady's accolade below?

(I don't know about C.L., but I was listing: the original films, not the ones immediately prior to the series, even if the latter have a closer title correlation; proper series, not just cinema films degenerating into television films; and proper films, not film-length pilots.)

Lassie Come Home -- or whichever of the Lassie films inspired the TV Collie (played by a male rather than a bitch, because of his full coatedness) to save Timmy from the well.

I don't know if these qualify--were they films first or TV first?

Thanks. Lassie brings up an issue which I was already aware of with MASH were the series inspired by the films or by the earlier books? I'm going to apply the rule that if there is an earlier book or other source, then at least one actor must play the same character in the film and in the series.

I did an accolade like this already.

By the way, we both missed 10 Things I Hate About You. I'll add it to mine now.

Sorry about that, C.L. Unlike some people around here, I won't just keep an accolade which is basically the same as someone else's, so I'll change mine pronto.

You haven't got quite a few from my version, so I'll list them here in the hope that you'll include them:

There was a series called Charters and Caldicott (the characters from The Lady Vanishes and spin-offs) in the 1970s.

I think there was a Star Wars animated series and there is a live-action series coming this year.

There was a Ghostbusters cartoon series.

There was a Young Indiana Jones series.

Joe Lara starred in Tarzan in Manhattan and Tarzan: The Epic Adventures, and then a series of the latter name (so I included the former as a normal film rather than very possibly a pilot.)

Do cartoons count? Since you did include Star Wars the animated series.
