Benj, when one clicks on Not a film, I suggest that the wording should be "This entry has been removed because we consider it not to be a film." This would just be to make clear to users that 'films' are not left lying around on the site that they are not allowed to review.

I'd argue an exception in this case as it has a strong connection to a well-respected fwfr member.

I have to agree with Salopian on this one I'm afraid- there's really not any argument I can see to justify keeping this entry. Plus it's not like we're removing all said fwfr member's entries on the site- they do have other film credits.

It's a fair cop.

Hi Benj,
I lost my award for the Rubber Face accolade due to one of the "films" being added (maybe MTV Video Music Awards 2000??).
Since it's been removed I still have 34 out of 35 films listed for the accolade but I can't find the remaining film.
I hope that makes sense.

Is it sorted as a general issue? At least one of those awards ones was in some of my person-specific accolades too. Thanks.

It's sorted in the sense that that accolade is now fine and this won't happen on any future non-film deletions. As for any other affected accolades, I'll need to dig around in the database backups to sort them out. So that's a 'No' until this evening, in other words.

Alternatively, I can fix these sooner if anyone knows of any specific affected accolades (as Conan did).

O.K., the awards one was probably in the following accolades of mine (see Josh's thread for links):

Clooney Bin
Born on the Third of July
Ledger Domain

Considering my recent approvals, I'm hoping "Wine Enema" wasn't a Hallmark TV special.

Okay, seriously, I want to approach this through my own reviews.

These might be wiped out and I'm okay with it:

1 Night In Paris (8 Sludges)
50 Greatest Documentaries? Argue for keeping.
Anything to do with Admiral Dewey
Any American Film Institute salute (I'd lose "Capra Corn", "Schindler's Nod" etc.)

Please do not delete "Another Demonstration Of The Cliff-Guibert Fire Horse Reel, Showing A Young Girl Coming From An Office, Detaching Hose, Running With It 60 Feet, And Playing A Stream, All Inside Of 30 Seconds (1900)"

Agree with Salop, All Baby Einsteins, including Shakespeare ("Bard to tears") and Baby Mozart too. Think "What would Anakin do?" That's right. Kill all the babies.

Backwards: The Riddle Of Dyslexia was an ABC after school special. I don't know if you're going after those - those would be considered a "made for TV movie" (as opposed to a TV show like naked news).

Best Ass in the World (this opens up a whole category of straight (and sometimes gay) to video garbage). I'd be okay with dumping everything with "Gang bang" in the title.

For selfish reasons I hope you'll keep "Michael Jackson and the Boy he Paid Off" which was a TV documentary... but seems fair to open for discussion.

1 Night in Paris is fine, unless Benj were to get rid of all porn. People have so far been pretty good about just adding a few with comedic titles/contexts.

Any kind of T.V. documentary proper or old short is also fine.

I'm not so sure about 50 Greatest Documentaries. It really depends upon its structure, I.M.O. I'd certainly say keep it unless someone knows that it is just like one of those (endless!) countdown programmes, which I definitely don't see as being films.

I'm fine with porn movies

My main concern is the influx of TV programmes, specials or fitness videos that IMDB seems unable to separate from films people would go to a cinema to watch or rent on DVD. It's almost tempting to say something isn't a film if it's been on TV before DVD, or wasn't released in the cinema and won't be coming to DVD, but I fear there's probably exceptions to those too.

I do wonder about TV documentaries however- why should these be classed as films?

They definitely should, as they are not discretely different from documentaries that might get shown at a cinema, so that rules out your T.V.-before-D.V.D. rule-out.

Think of Channel 4-type docos: they're way more films than five-minute cartoons, which I think should still count too.. And also remember that they have to be stand-alone ones to count anyway: the more T.V.ey ones will be episodes of Panorama etc.

Think of what a person could validly say "I am making a film" about. There will of course be some borderline cases, but it works pretty well.
