The Middle East

Bring out your falafel, burkas, pita bread, refugees, oil.... or a Bedouguin on a camel.

That is very sweet of you and my DH will be flattered when I email him about it. However, you are much more clever in thinking of fun avatar themes than I, so I am ceding it back to you.

Hey, that's not a problem! As far as that sea's concerned, the deader the better!

But I voted.

Whew! Just in from the mid-west to vote for the mid-East.

Voted quickly, during a lull in the fighting.

About as catchy as the short-lived Cuban slogan "Walk? Hell, we'll BRING you cigars if you don't intercept our floatillas."

I suppose 'I'd drive several miles to buy a decent cigar' doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

This picture appeared on a site called Kaleidoscope (which you may recognise as a Kuwaiti & Middle Eastern literary blog magazine 'where writers and thinkers meet to exemplify, vivify, and stylistically liquefy'). It was accompanied by several readers' observations about the wearing of the Hijab and Niqab, feminism, eroticism, and the requirements laid down in the Koran and Hadith.

Needless to say, the emotions it stirred up in me were considerably shallower and baser, in fact infinitely more superficial and low-brow.
