Titanpa, in the case of the hung jury, or even a mistrial, the accused is innocent. Remember the presumption of innocence. Of course, the prosecution can have another go, but the defendant is innocent until proven guilty.

Well, this seems like the perfect time to point out the genius of my 12 Angry Men review ... Swung Jury. Go vote!

For 12 ANGRY MEN,

"Fonda creates hung jury."

is wrong. The Fonda character created a unanimous verdict of not guilty. Someone else made a joke:

"No women = hung jury."

and I can see that -- even voted for it. But the 12 ANGRY MEN jury delivered a verdict.

I thought it was fitting because although the end result was not a hung jury, Fonda's character managed to make a panel of all 'guilty' not so concrete. They were ready to convict the guy and then all of a sudden, Fonda halts everything with his vote of 'not guilty' and causes everyone to stop and think and not be so sure of themselves.

:) It's good to be back. Things got really crazy with a new house, work and school, but I was pretty much laid off, so I have more time now to do nothing. (well, not nothing...this is still my favorite hobby) :)

But I did start an online candle business....that's going nowhere. I don't know how to get people to buy my candles. :( I've sold two.

Randall, I think we're being a little bit picky with this.... I mean, if there is a problem with my '12 angry men' review, isn't there a problem with your 'Titanic' review? I don't think Rose and Jack's kiss had anything to do with the ship sinking....especially since they are fictional characters in an actual historical event. :)

Like I said, I really don't think there is any need for any of us to nitpick this much. I can understand if someone referenced to someone who wasn't even in the movie, or if the review honestly had NOTHING to do with the movie, but I trust Benj and he does a really good job of keeping sucky reviews out of the system. :)

Is it a eBay site?...if no, have you had a go selling them on eBay?

Whilst this review is not 100% accurate (the jury is not hung when delivering its verdict), it is accurate in 'spirit'. On the first jury vote, there are 11 guilty votes, Fonda votes not guilty, causing the jury to be split and preventing a quick end to the deliberations.

Yes, he does subsequently bring them all round to not guilty, but it is the first vote that Tori's review is alluding to.

Good review, I think, it clearly sums up a pivotal point in the film.

btw - quite happy with nitpicking, as long as it's not personal (which it never is if I do it, and I am sure it wasn't with Randall). I have 1400 reviews, I am sure there must be a couple in there that are wrong, and I don't mind having it pointed out, or defending them.

As with the above though, I think there is a difference between technically wrong and spiritually wrong (doe/buck, duck/big yellow fictitious flightless lumbering bird etc )

I am not quite sure of the meaning of 'hung jury' - can it only mean at the end point? Or can it be that it is hung at a certain point in time? If so, the review would be totally correct anyway.

There isn't a category of technically wrong that is magically separate from spiritually wrong. It all blends in together, and different people's views about the same issue will be at different points along the spectrum. For me, a doe is just not a buck just as a woman is not a man. (A stag is also not a buck, for that matter. Bambi (in the cartoon) is a white-tailed deer, and this means that (as an adult) he is a buck.)

All characters in fiction are fictional. It doesn't mean that they are not specific species.

LOL, I guess so. Maybe this is why I'm not a thriving entrepreneur.

Well, I polled a bunch of potential customers and they all said they prefered shopping at a website, not ebay. Also, I'm making so little on the candles, I couldn't afford the listing fees. :(
