Nice to see you, Tori! Where've you been?
:) It's good to be back. Things got really crazy with a new house, work and school, but I was pretty much laid off, so I have more time now to do nothing. (well, not nothing...this is still my favorite hobby) :)
But I did start an online candle business....that's going nowhere. I don't know how to get people to buy my candles. :( I've sold two.
Is it a eBay site?...if no, have you had a go selling them on eBay?
Well, I polled a bunch of potential customers and they all said they prefered shopping at a website, not ebay. Also, I'm making so little on the candles, I couldn't afford the listing fees. :(
You should consider ebaY, regardless of what potential customers say- they're customers you already know, rather than the rest of the internet-based world of customers you don't. It's at least worth a try, since the fees aren't that bad if you're just an individual seller not too bothered about picture listings in search results, etc... Heck, if you sell at a set price, it's no different to selling off your own site anyway.
If anything, surely the convenience of not having to deal with payments yourself should enable you to concentrate on more important stuff like the craft of *making* candles.
Finally, if you want more proof it's worth a try for the extra customer exposure alone, bear in mind that ebaY only makes money when an item sells... and it has a yearly turnover in the billions.
P.S. On a related note... http://www.geoffellis.com/ebay.html |

Yup, you should definitely go for eBay. The listing fees are really not high. I now generally look on eBay first in order to buy anything. It is much more convenient than having to find specialist sites.
In case it entices you any further, I sold a plate for 51.00 on there that I bought for 2.70.

The Aussie eBay only charges 35 cents to list an item under $20(I think), it could be under $50. That is the listing fee, then if the item sells, the selling fee is 5.25% of the selling price.
So as long as you know what the fees are you just add them to your starting price. One good trick is to charge a Packing Materails fee.
The lower the selling price the better for you, fee wise (ebay get less), so you add any packing materails onto the postal cost. As long as you state in your listing that postage is $5(just an example)plus $2 for packing materails, people are happy to pay. In another words, customers hate hidden cost. So that $7 for postage and packing is not included in the total that eBay calculates the selling fee.
You should never buy boxes to use as packing, just go to your nearest supermarket and get some freebies. That way your are charging the customer for packing materails but getting it for free...more money in your pocket.
End of the day, as long as you are making a profit after you take out all the fees, even if it is only a little amount, it is worth a try.
If the item dosen't sell, it has only cost you 35 cents(whatever the US eBay charges)....it's worth a try
Edit: Forgot to say that you are allowed one picture in your listing for free, but there is nothing stopping you from hosting your own pictures...as many as you like for free. Always have a picture, I never buy anything that I can't see

Benj, for my review here, I put double inverted commas around the 'a', so would it please be possible to return them. I'm using double ones to signify quoting something, and single ones to signify 'supposed/so-called'. Thanks.

Odd- I got them through as single inverted commas (no edit was made to the review). No guarantees, but I'll try and correct the review today if I get time- failing that you could edit the review and try submitting it again.

Benj, there's a five word review here, Figuromo's I think (no offence to him/her). Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Whenever I see a five-worder I'm tempted to vote for it as a reward for sneaking it through but I resisted...

I knew that'd be trouble. Sure as eggs is eggs, the day after I put that up, I was having to explain why it said five when it should be four to a legal bod I'm working with at present- any other day it would have "Oh okay- I see", but no- I had to put that up so it was "Well, I know it says five, but it's really four. Y'see it's five years old, but the reviews are four words, but I thought it'd be fun to- ah, bugger it..."
