500 reviews must be the threshhold for getting the power to award 6/5. I've used it a few times, for e.g. Alien, Dam Busters and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.

Oh no. Now some bright spark is going to tell me why none of those deserved more than 4.

6 for those sounds fine to me, Koli.

How does the scoring of movies work? I assume that I click a bar and that says what I think about the film. But what does the red "x" mean? And what is the circle next to the bars for? I've clicked it and watched it turn blue, but I don't know what that means.

The red X allows you to clear your scoring of the particular film. The dot to the right allows you to flag films, for whatever reason you choose. You have a "flagged films" button on you myfwfr page.

OK, one more. i've seen some films scored 6/5. how does that work?

Hi damalc, once you hit 500 reviews you unlock the power of the dark side to do a few things different. I think it is 1000 reviews that lets you score 6 out of 5.

Check here....... http://www.fwfr.com/statuses.asp

Ah... so that's how you could rate a film 0/5!

Never was into things like Alien, never heard of Dam Busters but it is hard to believe that anyone who has read the book of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, would have ever rated it higher than 3.

(And people who have read The English Patient, would have rated the movie 2 at best.)

I've read Cuckoo's Nest and it's still my all-time favorite movie.

The book is good too, but they are very different... two sides of a coin, both shiny, all valuable.
