Only 21?

Don't sweat it. Sometimes they build up. One day you're going to log on and discover that he went through two dozen of your reviews all at once.

A week and a half is not long at the moment. The only reviews I've had approved in the last 3 weeks (I think) are for new films. Backlog is 3000 at the moment (I think) and at the rate of 100-200 or so a day you need to be patient. Fwfr is getting bigger.

Ah... That makes sense. I didn't realize that the backlog was that big. I just knew that I kept logging on and on and never saw any change, where in the past, they were approved within days.

Maybe they need more "approvers." I would be *MORE* than glad to volunteer. I *love* this page, and would love to do my part to help it.

Alan

You're not the first to volunteer. I doubt you'll be the last. Who wouldn't want to help out here?

Benj has repeatedly resisted those offers. Frankly I don't blame him, for a number of reasons. I can't predict how benj will deal with it as the site continues to increase in popularity, but maintaining control of it seems like a smart thing to do.

I think the reason Benj has resisted the offers is I suspect nobody is qualified to do the editing. Anyone who submits reviews that are declined can't be qualified to assist with editing. Perhaps when someone submits 100 reviews and has 98 of them accepted then they might catch Benj's eye and be permitted to help? Only guessing here...

I agree that there will have to be a solution to the backlog, as this site continues expanding (and it's expanding 'cos it's a fucking excellent site, I love it!) the editing will have to have a capacity increase. Us die-hard regulars will still be here but I'm not sure what will happen to a newbie who submits some reviews and has to wait 3 weeks before they get results. And then when they get results back and find plenty declined my guess is they will disappear.

But, benj has surprised all of us with new features on a regular basis so something tells me it's all under control...

Speaking as a newbie [when do I get to take the propeller beanie off?], it is indeed surprising to see so many declines at first. You can be put off, and here's why:

Like everyone else, I got hooked by surfing through the site. But durng this process I found lots of reviews that I have since learned were from the "old gang," before Benj raised the creative bar. My first thought was, "How does he let [insert vanilla review] in, but doesn't include mine? Doesn't make sense." By reading through a few of the fourums, though, I have deduced what happened [and support the tightened standards wholeheartedly; the site is more fun because of them].

However, the disconnect between these pioneering but bland reviews, many of which remain on the site, and the more recent, much improved crop, can be puzzling until you understand that this site grows and changes organically, which you can only get from sampling the fourums. My guess is that you will still have "tire-kicking" newbies who submit a batch and then drift away, but once you're hooked, let's face it: you're hooked.

I'm always on the lookout for these buggers, so if you can let me know any I'll remove any I deem too old skool

I just submitted a review for Lucky Break and one of the three published reviews may fall under the too generic clause. (I'll let Benj decide which one.)

Benj is still refining the process, and I say huzzah!

An odd thing happened: someone posted a review that used the same fact I had [in Kubrick's 2001, the name HAL is simply IBM transposed back one letter], so I edited my prosepctive review and it slid back down to the bottom of my [long] submission list.

Then Benj approved it that very day [today]! Thanx, Benj, for keeping us on our toes, and don't ever reveal your secrets. [I know you regret telling us that new movies got priority.]

No probs.

I'd best not let it slip that correctly spelt, valid hypenated-word checked, non-generic reviews that make sense also get priority
