There is nothing more memorable to me than Sally Field's second Oscar acceptance speech:

I haven't had an orthodox career, and I've wanted more than anything to have your respect. The first time I didn't feel it, but this time I feel it, and I can't deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!

Memorably, the Oscars began in 1927. And the First Best Actress Award went to Janet Gaynor, who won for her performances in no less than three films: 1927s Seventh Heaven, 1928s Street Angel, and 1927s Sunrise.

I'd like to see the moment in the Oscars when they scrape off that gold stuff and find out that underneath, the statue is... CHOCOLATE!

One of Oscar's greatest moments was undoubted the time he went dumpster diving and came up with this golden trophy - an fat, unspoiled slice of leerdammer.

I saw this picture of Fay Dunaway in the newspaper over the weekend. It was taken the morning after the ceremony, when she'd only had a couple of hours' sleep. Hence her laid-back pose and wonderful deshabille.
