What a difference a year makes. 12 months ago Barack Obama was swept into office on a tidal wave of hope, and the joy spread far beyond the borders of the USA. But his one year's anniversary celebration was spoiled by Scott Brown's win in Massachusetts, threatening to wreck his health care plans.

So this contest's theme is 'a celebration marred'.

The first thing that came to my mind was how many really, really bad moments come from the Academy Awards. All the lists had favorite moments, but consistently, this was mentioned. From 1972 -- the infamous moment when Marlon Brando sent Sacheen Littlefeather in his place when he won Best Actor for The Godfather. Definitely one of the more infamous moments in Oscar history, Littlefeather, who actually was not even Apache Indian as she said, but merely an actress, came on stage to say that Brando could not accept his Oscar because of the film industry's treatment of Native Americans. Any Oscar winner choosing to use the Academy Awards as a pulpit for their political propaganda is always a moment in bad taste, but Brando outdid everyone with this one.

When I celebrate I like Champagne. The only thing worse than Champagne that's too warm is when it's frozen solid.

Could this be the inspiration for Kill Bill?

How marred can you get?!

Here's a photo of the Titanic shortly before it sailed on its maiden voyage.
If memory serves, I believe that celebration was marred.

Had a celebration after I voted. Hopefully it's not marred by me losing.

Brando could have leveraged his profile after accepting and arguably made the same impact.

Sacheen has disputed accusations about her lineage, describing her father as White Mountain Apache and Yaqui.
