The technology used in Avatar, we all know, was groundbreaking.
Since it's release many movies have been retro-shot in 3D.
My query; when are we going to see the Avatar technology used again to the same extent?

I'm not sure how groundbreaking the technology was, but it was very advanced.
But if you ask me, why bother? I mean, been there, done that.
But one thing is for sure, if someone does want to use it again, maybe they should save it for a good script.

You see I had a conversation with a friend who said that they pumped so much money into Avatar because it was cresaating a new industry standard.
I was trying to verify this and you guys are the most film savy bunch I know, so just throwing it out there.
Do you think we can expect more movies like Avatar or not?

As many industry crits, etc have already observed, this is not now nor has it ever been about technology. It is about a long-term solution to piracy prevention, particularly as the industry works through the process of combining delivery systems -- that's the combo of film, tv, computer.
Just think for a moment about the bottom-line implications for global entertainment industries. It puts well into the shade any so-called battles between film and the new television industry in the 1950s.
So, a lot of the impetus for modern 3D is a question of old band-aids on new wounds. But most of the industry knew going in that was never going to be the issue.
Your feelings or mine or the pope's or peasants' will not make a jot of difference. You can sign all the petitions you want. Fuhgeddaboutit!
It's a money thing.

Looks like that question isn't so easy to answer given the many new techs used in Avatar. Some had been used a few times before and others not.
Seems like the biggest advance- namely the virtual camera system, is next to be used on The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn, due out next year.

| Just to further back up BB's comment about this being about money... was going to see Piranha 3D last night and they wanted nearly �17. Lorks! |

I have been dissappointed with the new 3D, with my glasses it seems to only have the effect of dampening the colours of the movie, this happened in Alice and Toy Story 3, so Avatar remains the only movie where it actiually worked. |
